Telia’s services for strong authentication are expanding beyond Finland. In the future, businesses will be able to rely on the Telia ID Broker and Telia Sign services to authenticate their users in the Nordic and Baltic countries – not just in Finland.
The Telia ID Broker service, which allows businesses to reliably authenticate their customers, is expanding to cover the authentication tools used in the Nordic and Baltic countries. In addition, Telia is also expanding its Telia Sign service in the same area. Developed for electronic signing, Telia Sign uses Telia ID Broker’s strong authentication tools.
Strong authentication is increasingly important for businesses
Telia operates as part of the Finnish Trust Network, which can be used for relaying all strong Finnish authentication tools. At present, the Telia ID Broker service is the fastest-growing brokerage service of the Finnish Trust Network and the current market leader.
Expanding authentication services outside Finland is an important change. The need for strong authentication is constantly growing, says Sales Director and Trust Services Specialist Kari Lehtimäki at Telia.
For example, phenomena related to privacy and information security have become more common. “Many actors want to carefully and correctly verify the identity of their counterparties”, Lehtimäki says. “Companies may need authentication services outside Finland, for example because of their subsidiaries or foreign trade.” And the signatory may also often be a person outside Finland.
Under one agreement, Telia provides access to the strong authentication tools of all Nordic and Baltic countries, all available through a single technical interface. The same interface works with the Swedish BankID and the Danish MitID, just like it does with equivalent services in all countries covered.
Telia ID Broker and Telia Sign support strong authentication and digitalisation
The change enables new kinds of opportunities for businesses in new customer acquisition and customer registration. Now companies can expand their online offering to new regions, as users can safely log in to the services or reliably add their signatures to contracts also outside Finland.
B2C companies, in particular, use strong authentication in their business. However, the services benefit all companies that want to reliably and securely identify their customers.
“Telia’s strong authentication services are intended for anyone who wants to digitalise their operations and offer their services in an online environment”, Lehtimäki says. “Now the services can be used across a larger market area.”
The following authentication methods are available via Telia services:
Finland: the Mobile ID service provided jointly by telecom operators, certificate card and Finnish online bank credentials
Sweden: BankID
Norway: Vipps App, BankID, BankID on Mobile
Denmark: MitID, NemID
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania: Smart-ID
